Home modifications
Home modifications are changes to the structure, layout or fittings of a participant’s home so they safely access it and move around comfortably in areas they frequently use.
Home modifications may be included in your plan if:
As with any building work, there are laws and regulations that need to be adhered to when undertaking home modifications under the Scheme. Further detail is available in the Operational Guidelines.

If you have a disability or condition that restricts your day-to-day living, it can affect your ability to remain living in your home. Sometimes, simple modifications can be the difference between staying at home and moving to specially designed premises. Renters and strata occupiers are the two most disadvantaged groups when it comes to modifying their homes.
You are looking at things as simple as:
KITCHEN Open jars or tins
Turn taps on and off
Chop or cut food
Pour the kettle, lift pots
Turn stove knobs on and off, or use timers
Reach high and low cupboards
Clean floors – mop or vacuum
HOUSEWORK Clean the bath, shower, toilet

Types of modifications under the Community Care program:
Major modifications: Major modifications include significant structural changes to a home such as lift and ramp installations and complex bathroom structures
Services include:
· initial home assessment
· Occupational therapy assessment
· arranging the preparation of building plans and specifications
· cost estimation
· project coordination of building modification
· post-modification assessment
· referral and information.
Minor modifications: Minor modifications include small, low-cost aids and equipment to improve accessibility.
Services include:
· customised bed blocks
· bed board
· bath seats
· chair platforms
· hand-held showers
· non-slip treatment
· grab rails and hand rails
· step modifications and step ramps
· shower curtain rods and screen removal
· door wedges
· light switch and power point relocation.
How much do I pay?
If eligible, you can be asked to contribute to the cost of major modifications.
For minor modifications, you usually pay the cost of materials and the service provider meets the cost of the labour.

Enhanced support to older Queenslanders during COVID-19
Home Assist Secure will provide extended services to eligible older Queenslanders and people with a disability who need extra support to remain in their homes, self-isolate and continue to access essential services.
As well as home maintenance, repairs and modification work that Home Assist Secure already delivers, service providers can offer further assistance including:
Deliveries of essential items
Home Assist Secure will work with you to ensure that you can access essential items such as groceries, medication, and health products, while you are impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. Your local provider can offer contact-less delivery (knock and drop-off), if required.
Regular welfare checks
Home Assist Secure will conduct regular welfare checks if you require to ensure you’re well, have food and medication and are coping with isolation.
Referrals to community support services
Home Assist Secure will connect you to referrals for mental health support, cleaning services and other support services required.
Subsidised assistance
If you’re eligible, you may receive a financial contribution towards labour costs for minor home maintenance or modifications that both:

Fees
All contractor expenses are heavily subsidised by the Program. Clients are required to contribute to the cost of materials and a minimal service charge. Schedule of fees is available on request.

Minor Modifications
Major and minor modification services require a referral by an Occupational Therapist.
Provides assistance to help keep a client's home in a safe and habitable condition. This involves the repair and maintenance of a client's home or yard.
Minor repairs are the small day-to-day activities of changing light bulbs and replacing tap washers.
More major repairs may include small electrical and carpentry repairs.
The Home Maintenance & Modification Program is a joint initiative of the Australian and Queensland Governments.

LifeTec provides Minor and Major Home Modifications services including occupational therapy assessments and certified building construction.
Government assistance may be available.
LifeTec's display centres at Newmarket in Brisbane and in Townsville showcase more than 1,500 item of assistive technology and are open to the public six days a week. It is free of charge, and you are invited to explore equipment on display, browse the library, search for items on the database of more than 6,000 assistive technology solutions or seek assistance from professional staff member. If you can't get to a display centre, there is an enquiries hotline on 1300 543 383 or LifeTec can come to you.

HOME MODIFICATION REGISTER OF PROVIDERS OF HOME MODIFICATION LAST UPDATED MARCH 2019
Please note:
1. Under s9(2)(b) of the National Injury Insurance Scheme (Queensland) Act 2016 and s21 of the National Injury Insurance Scheme (Queensland) Regulations 2016, home modification must be provided by an entity registered in NIISQ Agency register of providers for the service.
2. Only those providers who have or are currently providing services to participants are listed on the register of providers. The inclusion of a service provider on the register of providers does not guarantee that a provider will remain on the register, nor does it guarantee that they will be engaged to deliver services to a NIISQ participant.
3. NIISQ Agency conducts periodic reviews of the register of providers including the criteria and procedures to be a registered provider of a service.
4. NIISQ Agency will communicate with the service sector, including Registered providers, of any changes to requirements to be a registered provider of a service.

An independent not for profit community based organisation supporting the independence of people who have a disability, people who are older and frail, their carers and their families. Their staff and volunteers are passionate and dedicated to ensuring support is provided based on clients individual choice.
This program assists people aged over 65. In providing this service, subcontractors have been recruited and have followed the same employee recruitment processes as their staff, adhering to all requirements of their funding body DSS (Department of Social Services).

- due to the impact of your disability, you or your carers cannot reasonably access and use frequently used rooms and spaces in your primary residence;
- your primary residence, in its current condition, has significant and adverse impacts on the sustainability of current living and care arrangements; and
- a suitably qualified Occupational Therapist has performed an assessment and recommended home modifications, considering all possible alternatives, including the use of equipment.

To be eligible, you must meet all these criteria:
- at least 60 years old or of any age with a disability
- a Pensioner Concession Card holder
- unable to complete the work yourself because it requires technical expertise or is a risk to your health and safety
- unable to use alternative assistance, such as through:
- the Commonwealth Home Support Program
- the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
- family or friends.
